Transforming School Building: How Does That Impact on Student Performance

School building is an essential component of formal education. Yet, unfortunately not all of the school buildings in Indonesia have compact facilities to provide support for the students to develop their talent and skills. According to the Ministry of Education of Indonesia, around 11% of school buildings in NTT are not feasible to provide a supportive learning environment.

In the commemoration of National Children’s Day on 23 July 2023, one of the school that has been rebuilt by Happy Hearts Indonesia in partnership PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur in 2018 received a good news from SMP Deo Gloriam Wanno Mutu where they achieved the 1st place in Football competition in district level and ranked 1st in Female Volleyball competition in Southwest Sumba regency level.

Happy Hearts Indonesia is not merely rebuilding the school, but also offers School Management Training for the teachers and school administrators. This step is to ensure the sustainability of school program development which activates a self-reliance ability. In 2020, this school built their sport facilities which enable them to strengthen their sports team to compete in higher level competitions. As a result, they were able to win a volleyball competition and get 1.5 millions cash prizes as they ranked 1st.

Mr. Agustinus Ngongo Rato as the school principal expressed his gratitude to the assistance from Happy Hearts Indonesia in rebuilding the school.

The new building provided by HHI is conducive to learning activities for teachers and students. Previously, the study room had a woven floor and walls through which water could easily enter when it rained. Now that the room is better and safer, a sense of comfort arises, and confidence begins to grow because we have a proper study space,” he concluded.

This is an opportunity to help us to rebuild more schools in Indonesia where it will enable them to achieve a prosperous future through a well-build school and to keep the environment sustainable since we use waste-recycled materials to build the school!
