empowering communities through access to clean water

At Happy Hearts Indonesia, we believe clean water is essential for thriving communities and quality education. Our Water Access Initiative aims to provide sustainable water solutions to schools in underserved areas, ensuring every child can learn in a safe and healthy environment.

challenges we face

Clean water is crucial to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, but Indonesia faces increasing shortages. The Ministry of National Development Planning predicts water scarcity will rise from 6% in 2020 to 9.6% by 2030. East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), the driest province in Indonesia in 2019, saw six districts, including Kupang City, declare a drought emergency by 2023.
HOW WE START

comprehensive water access assessment

We begin with a thorough survey to understand the water needs and conditions of each school and its surrounding community:

identifying potential water sources

Our field officers, in collaboration with specialized vendors, use advanced tools to detect groundwater sources. If drilling isn’t feasible, we explore alternatives like rivers and springs, considering distance and terrain. This comprehensive approach is vital for effective planning, budgeting, and successful project implementation.
HOW WE IMPLEMENT

from planning to execution

After identifying the best water access solution—whether drilling wells or piping water from nearby sources—our team collaborates with local vendors, schools, and communities to execute the project.

Most projects involve drilling, which typically takes 3-4 weeks, depending on soil conditions, weather, and other factors.

Once water is accessed, we connect the wells to school toilets, install water tanks or reservoirs, and set up sinks to establish a reliable water supply system.
