Building Literacy Rates in East Nusa Tenggara through “Diamond for Charity” by Adelle Jewellery

Jakarta, 26 August 2024 – NTT is one of the poorest regions while also facing the lack of literacy rates in Indonesia. Despite being known for magical tourist destinations with a vibrant culture, access to quality education is far from meeting the minimum standard, contributing to the region’s ongoing struggle with poverty.

To address this issue, Happy Hearts Indonesia in collaboration with Adelle Jewelry launched a program called “Diamonds for Charity” where a portion of the gift you bought from them goes directly to the educational project in Sumba. This magnificent program running through the 1st November to 31st December 2023, aimed to build a library in SMPK St. Yohanes Kalembu Lona.

With your help, we were able to open the doors in July 2024 and stocked 200 books to fuel 96 students with knowledge and opportunities for future endeavors. We believe that dedicating a space for reading and learning will definitely inspire these young minds to explore possibilities and unleash their potential while fostering a culture of curiosity and intellectual growth.

The “Diamonds of Charity” program is a real form of our commitment to provide positive contributions to society. We are very happy to be able to work with Happy Hearts Indonesia on this project and hope that this library can provide great benefits to students at SMPK St. Yohanes Kalembu Lona.” Said Michael Surya as CEO of Adelle Jewellery.

On the other hand, Sylvia Beiwinkler as Happy Hearts Indonesia CEO stated that “We are so grateful for Adelle Jewellery’s dedication to empowering students in Sumba. This library is more than just a building; it is a beacon of hope and a gateway to endless possibilities for the children of SMPK St. Yohanes Kalembu Lona. Together, we are creating a lasting impact on the future of these students”.

The “Diamonds for Charity” initiative is part of a larger movement within the private sector to drive social impact through sustainable and philanthropic business models. Happy Hearts Indonesia remains committed to our mission of rebuilding schools and improving educational facilities in underdeveloped areas.

As this project in Sumba continues to make a difference, it serves as a reminder that together, we can bridge the gap in educational inequalities and pave the way for a more prosperous, literate Indonesia.
