Rebuilding Hope in North Jakarta: Happy Hearts Indonesia and CMA CGM Foundation Inaugurate Renovated YASPI School
Across Indonesia, thousands of children attend school every day in unsafe structures that hinder their learning and growth. July 23rd 2026, marks a bright new chapter for nearly 700 students in North Jakarta as Happy Hearts Indonesia, in partnership with the CMA CGM Foundation, officially inaugurated the newly renovated YASPI Education Foundation.
This project represents the third fully restored school delivered under our joint initiative with the CMA CGM Foundation since 2024. Together, we are turning deteriorating classrooms into vibrant, safe, and inspiring spaces where children can learn, grow, and dream big.

A Safe Space Designed for Growth and Inspiration

The YASPI Education Foundation serves children across primary, middle, and high school levels. Before the intervention, aging infrastructure compromised both safety and educational quality. Following an extensive overhaul, the complex now features modern, resilient facilities tailored to support comprehensive learning.
Key Facilities & Improvements Delivered:
  • Classroom Upgrades: Complete refurbishment of 6 existing classrooms plus construction of 1 additional classroom.
  • Sanitation & Health: Renovation of 15 hygienic lavatories to ensure proper sanitation.
  • Specialized Spaces: Fully restored teachers’ room and a modern computer laboratory.
  • Eco-Library: A unique, colorful school library built from a repurposed shipping container, combining educational impact with environmental innovation.
Reflecting on the impact of these improvements, Sylvia Beiwinkler, CEO of Happy Hearts Indonesia, stated “Every child deserves a school where they feel safe, valued, and inspired to dream big. For years, the students at YASPI studied in conditions that hindered their potential, but seeing their faces today in these bright, upgraded classrooms and unique container library changes everything. Working alongside the CMA CGM Foundation isn’t just about constructing better buildings, it’s about giving these kids the real chance and resources they need to thrive”
Ikram Ghazali, General Manager, of CMA CGM Indonesia, echoed this commitment, “Today marks another important milestone in the CMA CGM Foundation’s partnership with Happy Hearts Indonesia. Through the renovation of this third school, we are providing nearly 700 additional children with a safe and inspiring place to learn, grow and prepare for their future. We are proud to support initiatives that create lasting opportunities for local communities and look forward to completing the fourth school, extending the impact of this partnership to 1,600 children.”

Sustaining Long-Term Impact Across Indonesia

Our collaboration with the CMA CGM Foundation extends far beyond physical renovation. Since launching in 2024, the partnership has transformed SMP Tri Guna Bhakti and SMP Bina Karya in Surabaya (benefiting nearly 800 students). With YASPI now complete, nearly 1,500 children are actively learning in safe schools.

Work is already underway on the fourth school, MTS El Nur Kasysyaf in North Jakarta, which will welcome 100 middle school students in the coming months, bringing total direct student beneficiaries to 1,600.

To ensure true sustainability, each project includes a three-year capacity-building program for teachers and school administration focused on financial management and organizational sustainability. Furthermore, CMA CGM staff members actively volunteer throughout the year, participating in school rebuilds, sports activities, and reading sessions. Overall, these combined efforts will positively impact over 6,000 community members in Jakarta and Surabaya.
